Complete the FERPA Privacy Waiver

FERPA (The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) is a federal law protecting the confidentiality of student records. It restricts others from accessing or discussing your educational records without your consent. Through the UConn FERPA Privacy Waiver you can grant specific individuals the ability to discuss specific records (including parents, guardians, spouses and employers).

Read the FERPA Privacy Waiver Provisions to be sure you understand the types of information the participating University offices may disclose and the Frequently Asked Questions.

NOTE: This action is only for permission to disclose information. It is not the same as designating an authorized user access to e-Bills and Payment Plans.

To complete the required waiver, log in to the Student Administration System and navigate to the FERPA Privacy Waiver by clicking:

  • Main Menu, Self Service and then Student Center..

  • When the FERPA Privacy Waiver page displays, review the actions you can take.

  • Indicate No Designees
    • Scroll to the bottom of the page and select the checkbox I do not wish to disclose information to any designee.
    • Click the Save and return to Student Center button.
  • No Designees Checkbox

  • Add/Edit Designees
    • Enter the First Name and Last Name of the designee.
    • Assign a unique 4-character Access Code (letters, numbers or special characters, no spaces) for up to four designees.
    • Select the checkbox for the type of information you wish to disclose for each designee.
    • Click the Save and return to Student Center button.

  • Remove Designees
    • Select the Remove this Designee checkbox next to the name of the person you wish to remove.
    • NOTE: If you remove all designees, you must scroll down and mark the I do not wish to disclose information to any designee checkbox.
    • Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Save and return to Student Center button.

    Delete Designee

  • The Personal Information section of the Student Center page now displays a FERPA Privacy Waiver link. Click the link to do any of the following:
    • View or reset an Access Code.
    • Add/Edit a Designee.
    • Delete a Designee.
